Custom Anime costuming is a challenge. It always takes some
creativity to create cartoon clothes. The clothes were
drawn on characters not people. They were never intended to be worn as
real clothing. So design lines do not always fit into normal
patterning.
The simplest lines were on Popeye and Olive Oil. Color swatches were
sent by mail to match the customers skin tone. Then it was time for the
muscles and tattoo. The rest was fairly simple.
The most difficult of the Anime costumes were Kadaj and Yazoo. Their lines
were almost impossible to get the angles and the fit to go hand in hand.
Since the pieces needed to fit snugly, the lines were very imperative to
get exact. Lots of care was taken while drafting the individual pieces.
And then many try-ons to be sure it fit correctly. Shoulder detailing can
be a difficult project also. These items usually need to be stiff and hold
a certain shape plus be durable. They always inspire the creativity in
your head.
The Sasatori costume was also a difficult draft piece. Not because of the
tailoring like with Kadaj and Yazoo, but because of the layering of the
angles. Small detailed pieces were required to complete this costume.
Sarah's costume was simplier than the first three, but still had
challenges. Luc and Sportagus were probably the easiest of the Anime
costumes to create. Attention to detail is what makes your costume
correct. And all costumes have detail.
Now Darth Maul's costume needed to be exact in measurements, depth and
dimension. Darth Maul was made for a gamer to wear at a convention. Darth
Maul's articles of clothing measurements were taken directly from a web
site listing details of the movie costume. Each sash, robe, inner robe,
etc. had to be specific widths and lengths.
Anime shoe covers are an important part of an Anime Costume. These fit
over your shoes to create
the very interesting shoes that Anime's wear.
